The training is going well and the weather has been generally kind to us with no extremes to speak of except a bit of wind (more on that later). We didn’t get to do any biking on my ‘rest’ week due to one thing or another although I did manage to get the almost compulsory parkrun in on the Saturday morning. The next long run started once more at White Coppice Cricket Ground but this time the weather was decidedly damp, the sort of weather where you’re not sure if…

As you can probably gather from the title I’ve entered Trail Marathon Wales again this year which is held towards the end of June at Coed Y Brennin. Wendy is doing the half again and we’re staying overnight on the Friday and Saturday evenings so we can make the most of the weekend in Snowdonia. This past weekend was the first of my planned trail runs which will get gradually longer as the race draws nearer. Happily the weather was fantastic and the first official day of spring was perfect…

I sometimes forget just how changeable the weather is here in Lancashire, this past couple of weeks has been a classic example, as I ended up on top of Healey Nab, Chorley, for two consecutive weekends. Mid February saw a group of us set off from sweatshop Chorley for a 10mile(ish) trail run which went over the Nab down the side of Anglezarke Reservoir, up to the Wellington Bomber Memorial then back North along the other side of the reservoirs to White Coppice then west back to the shop. Although…

I’d been looking forward to the Montane Trail 26 Rivington trail run for a while and with it being on my local stomping ground I’d run most of the route before, admittedly not all at once. My training had been going to plan until a few weeks ago, getting out of the car after a parkrun I felt a sharp pain in my heal, I panicked a bit but after seeing Heather at Summit Physiotherapy it was soon sorted with a bit of not so gentle poking at my calves.…

This month Autumn arrived with the first proper rain storm of the season, just in time for Wendy to run the Rivington Half marathon a couple of weeks ago and almost three months since our summer break on Anglesey. After our break a lot of the weekends have been taken up running, walking or cycling round the Lancashire countryside. The hills around Chorley have been particularly colourful with one of my runs accidentally timed to perfection as I ventured over Great Hill and ended up surround by miles and miles…

It was just less than a couple of weeks ago that my first year of running came to a satisfactory conclusion or if you like, my second year of running got off to a flying start. The conditions were almost perfect, slightly overcast, light breeze and no rain as we arrived at Rivington School at the foot of the Lancashire section of the Pennines, just north of Bolton. There were a few of us from the local Chorley Sweatshop Running Community (SRC), each with our own goals for the trail…
