After failing once more to drag myself out of bed to catch the tides last weekend for a sea fishing session I decided last thing on Sunday that I just had to get out of the house. Driving towards Mere Sands I changed my mind at the last minute and headed down the brow in Tarleton to our local branch of the Leeds Liverpool canal and the boatyard at the canals junction with the River Douglas.
It’s been a few years since I’ve ventured down here and even in that short time things have changed a lot with a lot of the old boats and general health and safety risks we used to play on as kids nowhere to be seen.
As I took a trip down memory lane, remembering freezing cross country competitions running alongside the canal in my youth (a long time ago) I came across this crane which I’m sure has been here since I was a child. I remember we used to play around its grease and rust covered structure, imagining it as some sort of robot.
It’s a shame we never had digital cameras then to record such moments but then again, maybe they are better as just memories, where we can fill in the details with our imaginations..
